Overview

This Fall Session will build upon the successful Summer program by inviting leading professionals, including the head of the European Business Council. Young professionals in respective industries will also be present to share their perspective and insight.

The weekly sessions will follow a format of the first half being delegated to a guided discussion and the second half centering around a debate. The discussion will cover subjects that students have researched prior to the class. The business professional facilitating the conversation will open the floor to participants, many whom have lived in numerous countries, to share their personal experiences. This dialogue will be proceeded by a debate-style simulation of a proposed scenario regarding the theme of the session. Often times this simulation will comprise of groups each representing countrys’ respective ministries, corporates, NPOs and more. Within the framework provided, the goal will be for the groups to arrive at a win-win-win for all parties involved.

At the end of the program, students will work in small groups for a final presentation that entails the themes discussed. Students will be provided with information on business metrics to devise a profitable and sustainable business plan.

Expected Level of Students

Students will be expected to consistently engage in the discussions as the teaching material will be intensive. Students will have research readings of approximately 30 min~60 min for each class. Students will receive a certificate upon completion from the Global Leadership Program in Japan. Accordingly, students will be interviewed for their level of literacy, writing and oral discussion prior to matriculating to the program. Those who perform well in the program, upon evaluation, will be invited to take part as teaching assistants in the Spring Session of the Global Leadership Program. They will also be able to obtain work opportunities through the Global Internship Program.

STUDENT BODY

Each group will be mixed with students of different age level and there may be small number of students who may be participating from abroad via Zoom. Students may be switched to different groups during the session to maximize their opportunity to meet students from other schools and nations. This program is catered towards students who are especially interested in attending universities abroad, eventually working abroad, or working for a foreign company.

TEACHERS

Instructors will be composed of business professionals and prominent educators from Japan. Teaching assistants who have graduated from American boarding schools will also join.

PROGRAM OUTCOME

The program aims to develop student’s awareness in this global society by discussing themes pertaining to daily issues. Through such discussions, students will develop their critical thinking, learn by “listening” to other peer students and practice public speaking to increase confidence. Furthermore, the simulations will enrich students’ oral discussion methodology and ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Students will also obtain an understanding for industry structures, including how corporates and bureaucratic governments function.
